Team Liquid replaced Funplusphoenix for Valorant VCT Masters 1

The Valorant Champions Tour has announced that Funplus Phoenix next month will not participate in the VCT Masters event in Reykjavik, Iceland, less than 24 hours after FPX was crowned for the Champion of Stage 1 EMEA Challengers.

Despite the backup of a place in Iceland, Riot announced today that FPX can not set up a team for Masters 1 due to Covid-19 restrictions and other restrictions caused by the conflict in Ukraine.

While Riot says that it has tested all options, Funplus Phoenix will not be “without my own fault” in Iceland. Due to the squad continuity rules in the VCT, all teams who qualify for an event are at least three of the five players who played in the qualifiers. It seems that Riot was prepared to meet FPX by keeping certain rules for service planning locks and spare players, but could not find a way for the organization to set up a team that would not violate his continuity rules.

The FPX squad currently contains a Ukrainian player and two Russian players.

Although Riot will not attend, but acknowledge that FPX has won the EMEA STAGE 1 Challengers and qualified for the event by the team “VCT points and part of the [Masters] Price Pool”. The exact amounts for both were not confirmed, but it will probably meet the last place. While the overall price pool still needs to be confirmed, we know that the last place brings 125 VCT points.

FPX in Iceland is now replaced by the Team Liquid, which occupied the fourth place at the EMEA Stage 1 Challengers. It is currently not clear whether Team Liquid will receive prize money or VCT points for participation in Masters 1. This means that the three EMEA teams will be in Iceland G2, Fnatic and Team Liquid.
